JOB POSTING: ENVIRONMENTAL GEOLOGIST

Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, Professional Environmental Engineers, Inc. (PE) is a full-service environmental consulting firm that specializes in providing cost-effective environmental solutions for both government and commercial clientele. PE is seeking a full time Environmental Geologist to become part of the company’s Engineering Division, work out of the Kansas City office, and support a wide variety of projects, ranging from sampling groundwater at a formerly used missile site to a remedial design at a military installation to the remediation and cleanup of former dry cleaner. PE is seeking a dynamic individual capable of working with a team of professionals. The ideal candidate will meet all of the minimum requirements listed below.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide office and field support on a variety of environmental services including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, CERCLA/RCRA investigations, environmental remediation, and environmental compliance inspections.
Develop work plans, health and safety plans, field sampling plans, and sampling and analysis plans.
Prepare soil boring logs, cross-sections, contour maps, well schematics, and site maps.
Perform sampling of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil vapor, and air and other field related tasks.
Prepare written reports, tables, spreadsheets, and maps for client and regulatory agency review.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in geology or geological engineering with an environmental emphasis.
2-7 years of related work experience
Knowledge of geologic principles and local geologic framework, including the ability to independently identify local soil types using USCS or equivalent soil classification system and correlate site geology to regional geologic framework.
Knowledge of environmental regulatory programs including but not limited to federal programs such as CERCLA, RCRA, and NEPA and state regulations such as Missouri Risk Based Corrective Action (MRBCA), Kansas Risk Based Standards, and the Illinois Site Remediation Program (SRP).
Computer proficiency including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Adobe Professional.
Strong technical writing and technical presentation skills.
Strong communication and inter-personal skills to provide effective intra and inter-discipline coordination on projects, as well as effective communication with clients and vendors.
Must be organized, self-directed, able to prioritize and multi-task, work in a team environment and take direction from others and have the ability/desire to lead tasks.
Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel (less than 25%).
OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER/Current 8-hr Refresher.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Working knowledge of ArcGIS and AutoCAD
Construction Quality Management Certification

• Experience reading, interpreting, and applying standard engineering techniques,
procedures and criteria to ensure compliance with safety and environmental
regulations.
• Computer proficiency including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Adobe
Professional.
• Working knowledge of ArcGIS and AutoCAD (preferred).
• Strong technical writing and technical presentation skills.

• Strong communication and inter-personal skills to provide effective intra and inter-

March Of Dimes

Volunteer Month/ Employee Highlight. On April 22nd, Joanne Reno, Senior Engineer at Professional Environmental Engineers, and her team joined over 200 communities across the country to walk, celebrate and raise funds for stronger, healthier babies for the March of Dimes March for Babies. She has been an avid volunteer and fundraiser for the organization for over 17 years.

"I had my own Christmas miracle! My oldest, Dylan, was born via emergency c-section December 25, 1999, 10 weeks premature, weighing three pounds. Thanks to the life-saving research of the March of Dimes, he is now a healthy 17 yr old who loves archery, football, lifting weight and spending time with family." ---Joanne Reno

Missouri Department of Natural Resources Award

PE was recently awarded a 3-year, $250K, time-and-materials contract with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) to provide Investigation/Assessment and Remediation Document Review Services. The contract includes supplying the MDNR Tanks Section with a part-time registered geologist (and other technical personnel) to provide document reviews and technical support at underground storage tank (UST) sites throughout the state. Work is conducted to assist MDNR project/site managers with catching up on backlogged caseloads and to provide technical expertise for sites with complex geological/hydrogeological, site assessment, fate transport, risk assessment, and/or remediation concerns. PE has held this contract since 2008 (under two previous awards), reviewing and providing technical comments on hundreds of leaking UST documents and Ricker Plume Stability Evaluations, reviewing old case files for enforcement and/or closure purposes, providing database and GIS services, and assisting the MDNR with other related tasks.

November 21, 2016. Filippe Cade, Chief Engineer for PE and engineering graduate from Washington University in St. Louis (Wash U), is participating again in the Wash U Engineering Mentor Program. Filippe’s mentee, Samantha Wang (pictured above with Mr. Cade), visited PE’s St. Louis office and shadowed the PE engineers to get insight into the daily tasks and activities of an environmental engineer. The program runs from October 2016 through April 2017.
