JOB POSTING: ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST

Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, Professional Environmental Engineers, Inc. (PE) is a full-service environmental consulting firm that specializes in providing cost-effective environmental solutions for both government and commercial clientele. PE is growing and seeking a full-time Environmental Scientist to add to the Field Services Division in the St. Louis office. PE is seeking a dynamic and versatile individual capable of working with a team of environmental professionals and certified to perform asbestos/lead-based paint surveys and assessments, provide abatement monitoring/oversight/air monitoring, soil and groundwater sampling, and prepare reports. The ideal candidate will meet all of the minimum requirements listed below.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related field is a plus;

  • Minimum 3-5 years (with a BS or BA) or 6-8 years (without a BS or BA) of industry experience;

  • State of Missouri and State of Illinois certifications for Asbestos Inspector, Asbestos Supervisor, Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor, and Air Sampling Professional are required; State of Iowa certifications are a plus;

  • Self-motivated, able to work independently, complete scheduled tasks, and/or lead a project team;

  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills. Applicant must be capable of summarizing investigation findings and field methods. Strong communications skills are required as the successful candidate will work with other scientists, engineers, project managers, and clients in the execution of projects.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs;

  • Proficiency in computer software programs, particularly MS Outlook, Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat;

  • Ability to pass an annual physical examination and physician written opinion in compliance with OSHA regulations to wear and work wearing respiratory protection.

  • Ability to travel (less than 25%);

JOB POSTING: PROJECT MANAGER / SCIENTIST

PE is seeking a full-time, Project Manager/Scientist to work out of Jefferson City. Responsibilities include reviewing technical documents (files/reports) related to tank site investigations, risk assessment and cleanups, and plume stability evaluations. The ideal candidate will meet all of the minimum requirements listed below.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Hydrogeology, Soil Science, Environmental Science, Risk Assessment, Engineering, Chemistry, or related field;

  • Experience related to investigation and remediation of petroleum releases;

  • Experience with general risk assessment principles and risk assessment provisions of the Missouri Risk Based Corrective Action (MRBCA) guidance;

  • Knowledge of Missouri regulations pertaining to releases from underground and above ground petroleum storage tanks (USTs/ASTs) and the closure of USTs;

  • Experience writing and reviewing technical reports pertaining to environmental site investigation, risk assessments, risk management, groundwater monitoring, plume stability, and corrective action;

 

Other qualifications preferred (but not required) include experience with GIS, database entry/ management, excellent oral/written communication skills, experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and experience with reviewing chemical laboratory data and data on geologic, hydrogeologic, and soil characteristics.

Professional Environmental Engineers, Inc. (PE) is a 25-year old environmental consulting and engineering firm that specializes in providing cost-effective environmental solutions for both government and commercial clients. PE has been growing at a rate of 30% each of the last three years and is seeking a full-time Project Manager to manage the execution of compliance and permitting projects in the Midwest, primarily in IL, to support our Downers Grove, Illinois office. This position will be involved in a variety of projects that include cultural resource management, environmental planning, and regulatory compliance, with particular emphasis on managing a large scale stormwater program. This position will assist in compliance efforts for preconstruction planning, construction, and post-construction operations and maintenance in the oil and gas, transmission, and power generation markets.

 

The successful candidate will be assisting a team of environmental professionals in helping clients maintain environmental compliance with Federal, State, County and Local permit conditions and reporting requirements on construction projects. This position will also work closely with contractors, clients, resource monitors, environmental inspection staff, and agency representatives to ensure compliance with permit requirements, and mitigation plans. Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an environmental-related discipline (Environmental Engineering, Wetland Science, Soil Science, Biology, Geology, Ecology, or other related environmental science) and a minimum of 7 years of related experience.

  • Three years of experience as a Project Manager (PM) overseeing the budget, schedule, and technical aspects of environmental projects.

  • Experience in developing and managing National Pollutant Discharge Eliminations System (NPDES) and state equivalent permits, stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs), and spill prevention, control, and countermeasure (SPCC) plans.

  • Experience with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance during construction and experience in implementing and tracking mitigation measures.

  • At least five years of experience performing wetland delineations and function assessments, preferably in the State of Illinois.

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local permitting laws and processes, particularly those specific to Illinois and the Chicago area.

  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills. Applicant must be capable of summarizing investigation findings and field methods.   • Project Management experience on compliance projects

  • Experience with local, state, and federal permitting programs in any of the following states: IL (preferred), IN, MO, WI, MN, MI, OH

  • State of Illinois certifications

  • Certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist is a plus

  • Experience in proposal preparation, environmental planning, and wetland mitigation

  • Experience working with regulatory agencies.

  • Experience with CERCLA and RCRA regulations.

  • Valid OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER
