Professional Environmental Engineers performed a Phase I and Phase II ESA at a 4-acre paved lot located in the City of St. Louis. During the Phase I ESA it was revealed that the subject property had been occupied by up to 20 above-ground storage tanks containing fuel oil between at least 1941 through at least 1979. The Phase II ESA was performed to sample and analyze soil and groundwater and evaluate the nature and extent of contamination in connection with subsurface free product discovered during siter preparation geotechnical drilling operations. Activities included soil boring drilling, soil sampling, well installation, groundwater sampling, and well abandonment. Elevated PAHs were observed in samples of cinders, elevated VOCs in groundwater, and free product also in the subsurface. PE managed the disposal of contaminated soil (29,000 tons) and groundwater/wastewater (530,000 gallons) during construction activities.
